Every guest has to be reported to the Questura (local police headquarters) within 24 hours of arrival, and if the registration slip (schedina) doesn't go out it's a crime (art. 17 TULPS: up to three months' imprisonment or a fine of up to €206). For each one you also have to calculate the tourist tax with your municipality's rules. Today that means photocopies at the desk when everyone arrives together, data copied by hand into the portal and, at the end of the month, the tax calculation redone from scratch.

Where do the photos of the documents end up?
They're used to fill in the slip and then they're deleted. What remains is the sent slip and the receipt.
What if the guest doesn't upload anything?
He gets a single reminder the day before. If he doesn't upload, the document is photographed at the desk on arrival and from there the path is the same.
